US Rapper, Eminem turns 48 today. Born October 17, 1972, Marshall Bruce Mathers III had the 2000 UK No.1 single “The Real Slim Shady”. 2000 The Marshall Mathers LP was a worldwide No.1 album.

Alan Jackson’s Birthday

Alan Jackson, the country music singer, was born today in 1958. Jackson has recorded over a dozen studio albums. Of his singles, 50 have appeared on Billboard’s list of the Top 30 Country Songs. Thirty-five were No.1 hits. He is the recipient of two Grammys, 16 CMA Awards, 17 ACM Awards, and is a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Chuck Berry Would be 94 Today

Chuck Berry would light his 94th candle today. He was born this day in 1926. A singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Berry was one pioneer of rock and roll music. He helped developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive.

His lyrics focusing on teen life and consumerism plus his own brand of showmanship became a major influence on subsequent rock music. He also had a surprise hit in 1972 with his single “My Ding A Ling”, going to No. 1 in the UK and US. Chuck Berry influenced  The Beatles and Rolling Stones. Berry died on 18 March 2017, aged 90.

Zachary Efron Celebrates Today

Happy 33rd to Zachary Efron, American actor, and singer from High School Musical. The cast had the 2006 US No.1 High School Musical album and 2007, US No.1 High School Musical 2 album.

The Bees Gees Last No. 1 Single

On this day in1987 The Bee Gees became the only group to have a UK No.1 single in each of the three decades, (the 60s, 70s & 80s), when “You Win Again” went to No.1 on the UK singles chart making it the brothers fifth and last No.1 single.

Sting’s Accountant Jailed

Sting’s former accountant Keith Moore sentenced to six years in jail today in 1995. The courts found him guilty of embezzling £6 million from the singer’s 108 bank accounts.

McCartney and Lennon Start Songwriting Partnership

Paul McCartney made his first appearance with the Quarry Men today in 1957. They performed at New Clubmoor Hall, Norris Green, Liverpool. The line-up for The Quarry Men was John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Eric Griffiths, Colin Hanton, and Len Garry.

Paul played John some songs he had composed which Lennon contributed, marking the birth of the Lennon and McCartney songwriting partnership.

Elvis Gets Into a Fight

In 1956, 21-year-old Elvis Presley pulled into a Memphis gas station, where he attracted a small crowd of autograph seekers. After repeatedly asking Elvis to move on so he could resume normal business, station manager Ed Hopper slapped Presley on the head and found himself on the receiving end of a punch in the face from Elvis.

Station employee Aubrey Brown tried to help his boss but was no match for Presley.

They called the police. The police charged Hopper and Brown were with assault and fined them $25 and $15, respectively.
