Creedence Clearwater Revival Split

October 16, 1972, Creedence Clearwater Revival split. With the failure of their album Mardi gras, their limited success as a solo act, and legal hassles with Fantasy Records, they disbanded.

John Fogarty would have two big hits in 1985, “Center Field” and “Rock and Roll Girls”.

John’s brother Tom Fogarty died in September 1990, and the surviving members began touring as Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

Many artists covered the band’s music. One is Bruce Springsteen when they inducted Creedence Clearwater Revival into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Springsteen performed the song with John Fogerty. “Who’ll Stop The Rain?” The band inspired the title of a 1978 film starring Nick Nolte, which saw its name changed from Dog Soldiers when the song became available for use.
