‘Dull My Brain’ is a stomping track from soon to release five-track concept EP release by The Jailbirds. The first spin, ‘Dull My Brain’ is dark, extremely heavy.
Pay attention to the menacing lyrics that inform you why.
You can feel the gritty influence of Guns N’ Roses and other heavy bands like Van Halen and Deep Purple. The track has those sizzling guitar riffs, and raw, passionate lyrics.
The song is reminiscent of the 70s yet with their particular sound. Like the 80s sound, it is difficult to identify where the dividing line between hard rock and heavy metal falls with this band. Yet the result is true enjoyment.
‘Dull My Brain’ establishes the central figure of this sophomore album. The man is mulling over the decision to end his smoking and drug addictions.
The lyrics realistically capture the love/hate relationship all addicts must deal with. Does he enjoy and live by the moment or stop because of the deterioration continued usage will do to his future?
What strikes a chord is how precisely the lyrics portray the rinse, lather, repeat life of most addicts coping with addictions. The lyrics lead you through an addict’s thought process. The protagonist realizes he has a problem. His anguish, ecstasy, and shame resonate with you throughout the track.
It wasn’t always that bad. Like many addicts, things were splendid for a period until they surrender control. He recognizes that his addictions are off the charts.
“My mind flows like a river Release me from my chains My mind flows like a river Release me from my brain”
‘Dull My Brain’
Despite the train wreck ahead of him, he idealizes his addictions. He thinks he requires it to be in the world, yet it is unbearable as a sober man.
The lyrics capture the harrowing thoughts in the life of a man who is an addict. ‘Dull My Brain’ is a dark song, yet impressive.
The concept EP (so prog-rock 70s) is a realistic narrative of a man’s life, his ordeals, and the experiences he has. Impossible to know which of the 5 tracks will be its heart. If ‘Dull My Brain’ is a signal of the excellence of the EP, the drop is one to pre-buy.
Definitely looking forward to observing this second album by The Jailbirds.
