July 27, 1968 – Cass Elliot Releases First Solo Single

Cass Elliot released her first solo single today, following the break up of The Mamas and Papas. ˜Dream a Little Dream of Me’ was a song recorded by Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine and others. Cass’ version was the most successful peaking at No. 12 on the US chart and No.11 in the UK.

Known as Mama Cass, American singer and actress Ellen Naomi Cohen (September 19, 1941, to July 29, 1974) was a member of the group The Mamas and the Papas.

She released five solo albums after the group broke up. Cass Elliot was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for her work with the Mamas and the Papas.
