Recorded live at California’s San Quentin State Prison on February 24, 1969, Johnny Cash released ‘A Boy Named Sue’. The song was written by Shel Silverstein. This live recording came at the height of Cash’s popularity. The song was well-received at San Quentin as it told the story of a young man’s search for revenge on his father who had abandoned him at 3 years of age and whose only contribution to his entire life was naming him Sue.
