Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, The Staple Singers, Ronnie Hawkins, and Dr. John join The Band for The Last Waltz, a farewell concert for the ages.

November 26, 1969 

John Lennon works on a Beatles song for the last time when he mixes “You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)” at Abbey Road Studios. The song is used as the B-side of their “Let It Be” single.

November 27, 2000 

The Beatles have the #1 album in America with a collection of their 27 chart-topping hits, appropriately titled 1, proving that their appeal spans generations.

November 28, 1974 

John Lennon makes his last concert appearance when he joins Elton John on stage at Madison Square Garden, reciprocating for Elton’s appearance on “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night” and making good on a bet he lost: Elton wagered that “Whatever Gets You Thru The Night” would hit #1 in the US, and when it did, Lennon owed the appearance. The pair perform that song and also do The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There” and “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.”

George Harrison succumbs to lung cancer at age 58. His final hours are spent with his wife, son, and musician Ravi Shankar at his side.

The Sex Pistols appear on the Today programme on London regional TV as a last-minute substitute for Queen. After being goaded by host Bill Grundy, they swear repeatedly, including the dreaded “F” word, shocking sensitive viewers.
